Volume XXI-Avril-XXMM

WARNING – today’s note comes with a “reality downside” heads-up…  Not every day is sunshine and lollipops, right?  If you’re looking for that (if you “need” that LIFT today), just skip over my text and go straight to Nataly Kogan’s “happier” piece below – it’s great stuff and will serve you well.

I don’t know about all of you… but I’m growing a little impatient.  Maybe “angsty” is a better word.  Don’t get me wrong – I’m grateful.  Super grateful.  I’m blessed beyond measure on so many fronts.  And those of you connected with me on more “social” digital platforms know I’m not entirely cooped-up right now.  (I’ve yearned for “water” and finally got some quality-time with the mighty Pacific this weekend.)  But just these last few days I’m fighting back real angst over how things are shaping up for the future.  Yes… I sometimes don’t eat my own dog food and am not ashamed to admit it.

To share with you, I’m clear that I’m “borrowing trouble” and allowing myself to be pulled into the media circus of the push/pull that’s happening in the political world about how and when to start lifting the shelter in place restrictions.  When everyone is through squabbling and has “marked” their territories, each and every one of US will then have some hard choices to make for ourselves and those we love.  Public policy is one thing – but it will ultimately be our individual choices whether or not we’re going to take those risks as early as the opportunity presents itself.

The enormity of that upcoming decision point – along with the potential considerations of a world divided by things like issuing “freedom passes” to “The Immunes” who already have endured exposure and built Covid immunities is overwhelming to me in the implications it could cause.  Background – with what we know today, I can’t personally risk intentional exposure because I already function with a chronic auto-immune condition that hasn’t shown to play well with coronavirus.  Word from Wuhan is that active chemotherapy patients had a higher survival rate than Type 1 diabetics – ouch.  So, if I do everything right… that means I’m locked up retreating for health for 18+ months until a vaccine is available, as the rest of the world slowly goes back to normal and I watch from my DTSJ tower (a la “The Boy in the Plastic Bubble”).  Do you know how weeeeeeird it would be for someone else to take over Treadmill #1 at the Rose Garden Orangetheory Studio?  Or for the new job I’ve been waiting monnnnnths to step into to not happen because I’m… healthy?!

Yep, I am definitely “borrowing trouble” and now I’m passing it on to my friends and family (and a few professional contacts who’ve never seen *this* side of me… hi, there!), but it’s very real for me and I suspect if we’re honest with ourselves we’ve all had moments (if we’re lucky), days (if we’re normal), or weeks (if we’re struggling) of these same head spins of worry.  It’s easy to get in a bad place.  I had an absolutely glorrrrrrious weekend, and somehow a seed grew a mighty oak (feels more like a cactus!) in what, two days?  For those familiar (hey Southern Sisters!), this can become kudzu really really quick… so we all need a solution to address it FAST when we see it taking hold.

Did someone say…. SOLUTION?  Yep… I think I finally did.  Phwew. 😊

Enter Ms. Nataly Kogan.  Nataly spoke at February’s Watermark Conference for Women and she was pretty darn dynamite.  I’ll save the space and let you do your own research on her (since I’ve eaten up so much real estate “getting real” with you above).  Below is Nataly’s weekly newsletter from this morning (thank you, Universe!).  Here’s what’s in it for you:

  1. 10 minutes to get you out of your funk.  Or at least to get a good start on it.  She outlines three quick things that take just a few minutes…  Three – TEN MINUTES!
    1. Don’t over-do it – just DO it!  For example, my three tiny Acts of Kindness…  three of you are getting “love notes” from my “52 Lists Postcards” book.  (Love this little book of blank postcards that encourages you to send a list of what’s special, unique, wonderful about people – to people you care about.  Looks like it’s out of print —- so if you like the concept, grab one off eBay while you still can.)
  1. A free webinar on Wednesday at noon ET (9am PT)
    1. She is delightful, high-energy… She’s charming and easy to follow.  She’s a great speaker and will give you practical guidance on things to be happier and to help those around you find ways to be happier.  And we ALLLL need a little more of that.
    2. And if you miss tomorrow…  she does this (a different topic, angle… all around being happier) EVERY Wednesday…

Now go find some SUNSHINE!  (and if it suits you, a lollipop!)  Love you allllllll!
