My 24-hour settling in period has expired and now the real work begins. I checked so many things off “the list” yesterday — bought gold on an auspicious day (check), took my wicked maharjah shoes to the cobbler for repair (check-check), ate a Mexican chat for lunch (check-check-check), and met some old friends for dinner. My shopping diva (Michelle) and her future business tycoon husband (Deepak) and their new baby (Tee, short for Tiara) met me at the hotel and we had a really great visit. The folks I have worked with here are pretty young — and one of the rewards is to watch them grow up and move along in their lives. The fact that they remain in touch and want to see the “old gal” from the States is truly an honor.
I’m sitting here at breakfast easing into my old Bengaluru routines (and yes, my table was properly reserved for me when I arrived this morning!)… I’m looking oh-so-Indian today with my savare chemise and gold, and I’m always amused when the gents here at breakfast comment on my ensemble (as one Brit just did on his way out).
I just opened “The Times of India” and the headlines read “Buying Gold on Akshaya Tritiya is Most Auspicious” with the entire front page dedicated to the day’s focus on buying gold. And so I’m pleased to be “en vogue” to be wearing my auspicious purchase from yesterday (pix below). 🙂
Times of India in Delhi looks way different ..
